Horses are amazing animals known for their beauty and elegance, but unfortunately, many of them suffer from neglect more than we realize.
One such horse was Heidi, a sweet mare who was discovered stuck in the mud at an abandoned construction site. So buckle up, because this story begins with a shocking find.
One day, volunteers from a charity were called to the site and were met with a horrifying sight – a horse lying in the mud, weak and barely alive.
But then something incredible happened. The horse, later named Heidi, was still breathing! However, the neglect she faced was extreme, one of the worst the volunteers had encountered.
So, knowing they were her last chance, the volunteers rushed to help her. As they shared in an interview:
“It took five people to lift her to her feet.”
The owner of the site had actually contacted someone to take Heidi away, believing she passed away.
This made the caring volunteers really upset because they pointed out that it didn’t matter what he believed; Heidi had already gone through a lot of pain.
Sadly, Heidi’s road to getting better was really tough and took a long time. She had to battle against malnutrition, parasites, and infections, and her body was full of painful sores.
But, she was determined to make it through! At first, the volunteers had to help her because she was extremely weak and had a very low level of protein in her blood, which meant she needed a plasma transfusion.
Luckily, blood donations from healthy horses and special bandages helped her recover. Still, it took months before Heidi was strong enough to run around in our fields.
Now, Heidi is a completely transformed horse. Her once-skinny body is now fit and healthy. Her gorgeous mane has grown back, and she is full of energy.
And believe it or not, Heidi has actually won some awards, which is pretty amazing! It shows how brave she is!
Sadly, the person who caused her pain has never faced any consequences. It’s really unfortunate that animal cruelty often gets overlooked.
However, if anything, Heidi teaches us that there is always hope, even when things seem really tough. With love and proper care, animals that have been hurt can recover. Sometimes, they can even turn into heroes!
