Pregnant Mare At Colorado Sanctuary Stuns Everyone With Rare 1 In 10,000 Birth

The devoted team at a wild horse sanctuary in Livermore, Colorado, had been closely watching one of their beloved mares, Resurrection, who was expecting a baby.

Her gentle demeanor and growing belly had everyone anticipating the arrival of a new foal, a precious moment for any rescue organization.

Yet, within this seemingly typical pregnancy was a surprise that would leave everyone speechless – a phenomenon so rare it occurs only once in every 10,000 horse births.

As Resurrection’s due date neared, the team at Banditas Wild Horse Promise closely monitored her around the clock, ready to intervene if anything went wrong.

With horses, there’s always a level of unpredictability. Complications can appear out of nowhere and everything can change in an instant.

But Resurrection seemed to be doing just fine which made the team optimistic. Then, one morning, things took an unexpected turn.

It was breakfast time and Resurrection was nowhere to be seen. Knowing that she never missed breakfast with the other horses, the team felt nervous and excited all at once.

Could this be it? They didn’t waste a second and rushed out to the pasture, eager to welcome the new addition.

What they found left them speechless. Instead of one foal, Resurrection gave birth to two wobbly-legged newborns!

Twin colts – an incredibly rare occurrence that happens only in about 1 in 10,000 horse births – were standing there, alive and kicking.

For a few moments, the sanctuary team stood frozen, staring in disbelief at the tiny miracles in front of them. Twin pregnancies in horses are often filled with complications, and it’s not uncommon for one or both foals to be lost.

But here they were, healthy and strong. Against all odds, these two little colts had made it into the world safely.

Yet, the real challenge was just beginning. The team knew the first two weeks would be critical, and ensuring the health of both colts was now their top priority.

Naming the colts Red and Blue, the team wasted no time rallying around Resurrection. She seemed a bit bewildered by the sudden responsibility of caring for two foals instead of one.

Being a first-time mom to twins, she needed help figuring out how to balance her attention between them. So the team stepped in, conducting checks every three hours, making sure she bonded with both colts and provided the care they needed.

Slowly but surely, Red and Blue began to thrive and show their personalities. Red was adventurous and curious, confidently trotting over to the caretakers without a hint of hesitation.

Blue, on the other hand, was a bit more reserved, staying close to Resurrection’s side and quietly observing everything around him.

Each day, their progress brought more hope and joy to the team.

Word of the rare twin birth spread quickly, capturing the hearts of people everywhere. Horse lovers couldn’t get enough of the adorable “twinnies” and everyone was cheering on the little family, praising the team’s dedication too.

The entire sanctuary team felt touched and encouraged by the overwhelming response. It reminded them why they do what they do – the long nights, the uncertainty, the hard work.

Well, it’s all for moments like this. For giving horses like Resurrection and her twin colts a fighting chance.
