As much as winter is challenging for many animals, it’s especially tough for birds who have to deal with unexpected winter hazards, low temperatures and limited food sources.
Sadly, most animals struggling with winter dangers don’t survive, but this tiny bird was fortunate enough to cross paths with a very creative and kind-hearted man.
One freezing day, a man named Nelson Wilson came across the bird who had landed on a frozen pipe and got stuck.
The extremely low temperatures had caused the poor birds’ feet to freeze to the pipe. Nelson knew he had to act quickly to help and set the bird free.
The pressure was on as the bird was visibly scared and desperate to fly away. Finally, Nelson came up with a brilliant idea.
He started filming the rescue mission, where it can be seen how frightened the bird was, urging him to act quickly.
He gently wrapped his hand around the bird to prevent it from thrashing around and began to blow his warm breath across the frozen pipe. Soon, the ice began to melt away.
Thanks to Nelson’s quick thinking and this creative trick, the bird was freed in just a few seconds.
While still holding it, he ensured the bird wasn’t injured and then released it, watching happily as it flew away.
