Man Rescues A Baby Toucan Who Fell From His Nest And Nurses Him Back To Life

Paul and his girlfriend Nikita are fierce advocates for jungles and wildlife. They’ve dedicated their lives to saving the planet’s rainforest.

So it’s only natural that they care so much about the wildlife in the jungle and they’ve proved it with today’s story. Let’s dive into it!

While Paul and Nikita were swimming in the river, Nikita noticed something moving close to them. They usually don’t interfere with wild animals, but this time, it seemed like the animal desperately needed help.

Paul rushed to investigate and was soon left heartbroken. A baby toucan bird crawled on the jungle floor, far away from his mom and his nest.

The couple knew they had to do something about it, so they scooped him up with the help of a towel and brought him to their research station where they were staying.

At first, Paul believed the little toucan wouldn’t even make it through the night, as he said in his video

“I just prepared myself to wake up in the morning and for him to not have made it. The next morning he was 50 percent better.”

Surprisingly, the little fighter made it through the night and Paul had to figure out the best way to feed him.

It turned out that a simple spoon did the trick. They would just place the spoon in front of him and he scooped it up with his long beak.

Although he seemed to be better, there were still numerous problems that concerned Paul. The little toucan was covered in parasites, so he had to make sure to properly handle him.

Naming him Lucas, the tiny toucan became the center of attention at their research station. Everyone was helping take care of little Lucas. Paul planned to keep him until he was ready to wander off into the jungle and his adventure.

However, Lucas had to learn how to fly first. It was on Paul to make sure he learned how to flap his wings.

He would take him to a nearby trail and help him fly up and down until the little guy learned how to fly up to the trees. By this time, Lucas already had all his feathers, as Paul mentioned:

“Finally, all of his feathers are back, and he’s beautiful looking, he’s completely healthy.”

Shortly after, Lucas decided to leave his foster family and go off to the jungle where he belongs. As Paul also said:

“One day he went out into the jungle, and they don’t come back. We couldn’t have hoped that it would’ve gone better than that.”

Thanks to Paul, Nikita, and their entire team at the research station they managed to nurse this little bird back to life. As Paul beautifully said:

“None of the animals I’ve ever rehabilitated have had the spirit that this little bird had. By saving Lucas, we’ve repaired this one very, very small piece of the rainforest.”
