“As soon as he sees my husband Neuty is immediately running to him!”
Neuty and some other baby nutrias were in the street when Danny spotted him and grabbed Neuty, thinking he was injured. He and his wife, Myra, immediately began researching how to care for a baby nutria properly.
They prepared a cozy nest for him using a towel and a kennel, and they provided wood branches for him to chew on, which is important for his teeth.
Knowing he needed some water time, they placed him in the bathtub and the fun began!
Neuty loved it! They soon discovered that he also enjoyed dog beds, so they got him his own.
Within about a week of bringing him home, Neuty began to show his true personality.
He would chat with his rescuers, snuggle with them, and follow them around the house. As Myra explains in the video:
“He would get excited and start twitching and stuff. And that’s his way of telling you he wants to play.”
However, they have to keep an eye on him…
If they let him out of their sight for too long, he’ll make a big nest out of anything he finds – pillows, shirts, underwear…anything!
“Sometimes, he’ll steal the dogs’ toys, and play with those. He makes his bed now in the bathroom, that is attached to our bedroom. It was just a matter of wanting to be closer to us.”
As soon as Danny took him off the streets, he bonded with Neuty. Myra feels their connection was instant, likely because Neuty was just a baby in desperate need of love and affection.
“My husband was picking him up and cuddling him.”
Danny takes him along to as many places as he can, and Neuty gazes at him with love. Just imagine the expressions on people’s faces when they see this amazing duo!
“As soon as he sees my husband Neuty is immediately running to him. He does not treat anybody else like that. And he’ll just hold a long conversation with him.”
Neuty is their little treasure! He makes them laugh every day and is just so adorable! He was never skittish or scared of them; they earned his trust from the very first day.
Wow, can you imagine having a nutria as a pet? How adorable!
