One day, while inspecting oilfield pipes and equipment with a co-worker, a man named Saber noticed something unusual on the ground beside one of the pipes.
Curious, he went to investigate and was shocked by what he discovered. A tiny hedgehog, barely alive, was stuck to the ground, completely covered in crude oil.
Heartbroken by the sight, Saber sprang into action, determined to save the little creature’s life.
The tiny hedgehog lay motionless, his tiny body only rising and falling as he struggled to breathe.
Saber knew he had little to no time before the distressed animal drew his last breath, so he had to act quickly.
His co-worker, unbothered by the hedgehog’s plight, advised Saber to just leave him be. However, Saber, driven by compassion, refused to give up so easily.
He carefully scooped up the poor creature and took him to his office.
Many hedgehogs, when stressed or threatened, tend to roll in a tight ball to protect their vulnerable belly, and this one was no exception.
The moment Saber touched him, he curled up, complicating the cleaning process.
Saber initially tried to unroll him under running water to unroll him, but the water and soap simply weren’t doing much.
Reflecting on his rescue mission in an interview, Saber said:
“I started to clean him using a hand cleaner and a toothbrush to remove the oil from his body, but the oil concentration was very high and the cleaner did not work well. After researching on the internet about home remedies to clean the bodies of animals soaked with oil, we realized that the best material is edible vegetable oil.”
Taking the Internet’s advice and with the last bit of money in his pocket, Saber rushed to a nearby store to buy some oil to clean his new friend.
After hours of dedicated effort, he successfully removed all the crude oil from the hedgehog. Speaking about his small, but meaningful success, Saber said:
“The result was amazing, as he got up and started to run happily. It was there that my fatigue vanished, and I felt hopeful that I could rescue him. He showed great stability and persistence to survive. So I decided to make his name Tenacious.”
I’m so happy Saber managed to rescue little Tenacious, who, in my humble opinion, got a pretty fitting name.
Hopefully, he is enjoying his new life with his new owner, Saber. Something tells me this kind-hearted rescuer couldn’t help but adopt the precious hedgehog whose life he saved.
