When Frank Pitten and his son Michael from Scituate, Massachusetts, went on a boat trip that day, little did they know they would encounter the biggest white shark ever!
A report about a whale carcass made the father and son duo turn on their boat engines, hoping to get a glimpse of the deceased whale.
However, their trip soon took a different turn, earning them viral fame. Since the whale carcass had been floating around for a few days, it attracted some white sharks.
The sharks were feasting on the whale carcass, but one shark in particular made this experience even more fascinating.
Frank noticed some movement under their boat and one glimpse revealed the biggest shark he’s ever seen. As he said in an interview:
“I looked at Michael and I was like you know this is kind of a once-in-a-lifetime thing.”
The great white shark in question was so big, that he scared of a smaller shark group, trying to get to the whale.
In comparison, their boat was 29 feet long and the shark swimming underneath them was almost 20 feet big!
Michael even went so far as to lean over just to take some amazing pictures and a video that later took the internet by storm. As Michael also shared:
“The shark that we saw, I would guess, was 20 feet give or take and the most shocking part about it was the girth of the thing.”
Unbothered by the boat right above him, the shark swam peacefully claiming the water and the giant whale carcass.
This was all just a few miles away from the coast and luckily their video warned others about the danger lurking in the water.
Given that the ocean is their natural habitat, it’s essential to always exercise caution when swimming or surfing.
