The Franklin Park Zoo recently witnessed something truly heartwarming that proves to us just how compassionate animals can be.
A Boston family, Emily and her husband, Michael Austin, decided to visit the zoo for the weekend.
They had a new addition to the family, their one-month-old daughter, and it was her first zoo visit!
The family was enjoying their day while visiting all the animals Franklin Park Zoo has to offer. However, once they came closer to the gorilla enclosure something out of the ordinary yet amazing happened.
Emily was holding her daughter in her arms when she crouched down to observe the gorillas playing around in their enclosure. Just minutes later, Emily caught the attention of a gorilla named Kiki.
Kiki, a recent mom herself to an adorable baby gorilla named Pablo, was amazed by Emily’s daughter.
She crouched down to the same position as Emily, hoping to get a better look at her daughter.
The visitors couldn’t believe what was happening right in front of their eyes! Kiki was so fascinated by Emily’s baby that she kept placing her hands on the glass, almost as if she wanted to touch her.
Emily kept showing her baby, and at one point Kiki looked directly into Emily’s eyes. She then turned around and grabbed her gorilla baby Pablo and showed him off to Emily!
As one comment on YouTube beautifully said:
“She keeps looking at the baby in amazement. It’s really a bond between 2 nurturing moms and really shows the beauty of nature. The gorilla mama is like “ look I’m a mom too”.”
What amazed me is the fact that Kiki perfectly understood that Emily was a mom just like herself!
The two moms kept admiring each other’s babies for another five minutes before it was time to say goodbye.
This unique encounter proves to us once again that animals have feelings and understand the world around them as much as we do.
