Let’s be real, going out to your back deck for some fresh air shouldn’t mean coming face to face with a 400-pound bear. But that’s exactly what happened to a family in Pagosa Springs, Colorado recently.
What a way to start the day! Just picture it: you go out with your morning coffee, ready to enjoy the mountain air, and instead of birds singing, you hear a bunch of “huffing and moaning” from under your house! Enough to make anyone jump and spill their coffee…
This family definitely made the smart choice by reaching out to Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) for assistance instead of risking it with a huge bear.
Who would want a cranky, 400-pound visitor in their home, especially one who loves to snack on anything tasty they can find in the kitchen?
Here’s where the story gets even more exciting! CPW wasn’t really surprised to find a big, black bear (yes, black bears can be brown!) napping peacefully under the deck.
It turns out, this bear was famous for having a fancy taste and enjoying unexpected snacks earlier.
Now, tranquilizing a bear under a deck isn’t something CPW does every day. It seems like there was some wrestling involved, with wildlife officials even asking some brave onlookers to help move this big animal.
Luckily, the bear was safely taken back to its natural home, where it can enjoy a more suitable buffet of berries and bugs.
Well, I hope he’s enjoying himself out in the wilderness. Having a 400-pound bear hanging out under your deck might sound exciting (and scary), but it’s not a good situation for anyone.
It was a good move to bring in the experts. I mean, who would prefer a cranky bear under their deck when they could have a hammock there instead? That’s the kind of animal encounter I’d be up for…
