“If she wasn’t already my best friend, she is now.”
Dogs are well known for their loyalty, but Luna, a brave Jack Russell Terrier, took it to the next level when she saved her owner’s life during a sudden medical emergency.
The remarkable event happened when 48-year-old Vaughn Marshall collapsed outside his home after returning from a walk with Luna.
Vaughn felt unwell and collapsed, struggling to breathe and unable to move. With no one home or nearby to help, the situation could have easily turned fatal.
But Luna sensed her owner’s distress and sprang into action. She ran from house to house, barking frantically and searching for help. Vaughn recalls the ordeal, saying Luna is a true lifesaver:
“I am just incredibly lucky. She was barking across the road and the last thing I remember is her running around the corner.”
Luna’s efforts paid off when a kind-hearted woman noticed the frantic pup and rushed to help Vaughn. She quickly brought Luna back and called an ambulance, potentially saving his life.
Vaughn was rushed to the hospital, where doctors discovered he was suffering from a life-threatening condition – a pulmonary embolism, which can be fatal without immediate medical attention.
Dr. Craig Johnston, an intensive care specialist at their local hospital, explained the gravity of the situation:
“Who knows what the outcome might have been if Luna hadn’t been there.”
Vaughn spent three nights in the ICU before beginning his recovery at home, with Luna right by his side.
He’s incredibly grateful to Luna for her quick thinking, and Vaughn couldn’t help but reflect on how close the call was:
“If she wasn’t already my best friend, she is now. I’m not sure if she has any idea of what she’s done, she certainly knows she’s been very spoiled ever since.”
Luna’s heroism hasn’t just earned her extra treats, but also endless gratitude from Vaughn. He’s equally thankful to the woman and her partner who helped save his life.
Thanks to Luna, Vaughn was saved, can you imagine that? This is yet another proof of the incredible bonds we share with our pets.
Luna’s quick thinking and loyalty proved life-saving, showing that sometimes, a little dog can make a big difference!
