Dog Saves His Owner’s Life After Car Crash By Running 4 Miles To Find Help

Sharing is caring!

This ultimate hero of a dog ran for nearly four miles trying to find help for his owner after he crashed his truck. The man, Brandon Garret from Oregon, was traveling with his four dogs on U.S. Forest Service Road 39 in Oregon’s Baker County.

He lost control of his vehicle which veered off the road and ended up on a riverbank below.

Thankfully, one of Brandon’s trusted dogs knew exactly what to do. Blue found his way out of the truck and ran nearly 4 miles through the night, reaching the campsite where Brandon’s worried family was waiting.

Blue led them back to the crash scene, where they quickly called for help. The terrain was very rough, so they couldn’t reach Brandon and had to wait for the police and ambulance.

Imagine the heartbreak and worry while they wait to see if their beloved Brandon will live.

Thanks to Blue’s courageous act, Brandon and all three remaining dogs were rescued in time!

The Baker County Sheriff, along with Baker County Search and Rescue, Pine Valley Rural Fire District, and Halfway Ambulance, joined forces to save Brandon and his three canine friends. They shared the story on Facebook:

“Sheriff Ash arrived and located the vehicle, along with a dog, in the steep, brushy ravine. As he was looking for an access point to the creek, he heard a subject yell for help. Brandon Garrett, operator of the vehicle, was located alive approximately one hundred yards from the vehicle above the creek. Sheriff Ash rendered first aid. Pine Valley Rural Fire volunteers and U.S. Forest Service employees used chainsaws to clear a path for Search and Rescue.”

Sadly, two of the dogs suffered broken bones, but the vets expect them to recover well and be back to normal soon. They shared their full report on Facebook as well:

“During the investigation, it was determined that Garrett was traveling north on U.S. Forest Service Road 39 with his four dogs, when he failed to negotiate a curve causing the vehicle to plummet off the embankment. One of his dogs traveled nearly four miles to their camp, which alerted the rest of the party that something was wrong. Garrett was able to crawl approximately one hundred yards from the vehicle, where he spent the night. The rest of the party continued to search for him, and family members located his vehicle (the next morning). The three remaining dogs were located alive at the crash scene.”

Brandon was taken to a hospital for a thorough check-up and was released later, thankfully, he didn’t sustain any serious injuries. As his brother said, “He is banged up, but recovering.”

The police initially didn’t post any photos of the heroic doggo, but they did report that all the dogs were Pit Bull mixes. Dogs are known for their incredible loyalty, and Pit Bulls are steadily rising to the top of the list of loyal and trustworthy breeds!

As more people viewed the Facebook post and the news spread, the police had no choice but to post a photo of the “goodest boy ever,” Blue!

“We understand folks have been patiently waiting to see a photo of Blue. The family graciously provided us with this photo.”

Many people praised Blue for his courageous act and, of course, thanked everyone involved in the swift rescue. But who knows what might have happened if it wasn’t for Blue! As Paula, one of their Facebook followers, summed it up:

“What an amazing story. What a great & caring dog. He knew what he needed to do and he did it.”
