This poor baby had been waiting for someone to rescue him. The neighbors told Mandy’s husband that he’d been tied up for at least five years.
There was no food, the yard was full of trash, and there were other chains tied to the fence – most likely the person who tied this dog up used to do this before to other animals as well.
He lived in an old dog crate filled with hay, surrounded by mud and dirt.
Mandy was devastated by what they found, and her husband couldn’t shake off the awful feeling or forget the eye contact he had made with the dog.
The dog had been tied up for so long that the man couldn’t unlatch the hook…
But let’s rewind a bit – how did Mandy and her husband even find him?
Mandy and her husband were called to their neighbor’s house for some work when they noticed the dog through the fence.
When they approached him, he was frightened and didn’t know what was happening.
After they got him into the truck, he started to perk up a bit. Once they arrived home, he was friendly, but also very sensitive. He was scared of everything, and who could blame him?
This poor little doggy had spent years chained up and all alone. He was scared of new sounds and anything unusual his new parents did. When Mandy cleaned the house, he hid under the table.
The next day, they took him to the vet, where they discovered he had severe heartworm.
They knew treating it would be very expensive, so Mandy shared his story online, and it went viral! She quickly raised the money needed to pay for the dog’s treatment.
They initially moved the dog into their home office because they were nervous about introducing him to their other dogs.
However, one day he accidentally got out of the office and met their German Shepherd. To their surprise, they became best friends! Seeing Hooch so happy and in a loving home just brings tears to my eyes:
Their new canine friend has been completely gentle with other dogs, he’s just friendly and great with them. I can only imagine how they felt watching him, as Mandy said in the video:
“It’s heartwarming seeing him have so much fun with all these other dogs, because he’s been alone for so long.”
Mandy and her husband found a few potential homes for him, but they couldn’t shake the feeling that Hooch was their dog now. Whether they planned on having another dog or not, he is theirs.
“This is his home, and he’s happy here, and we love him.”
So cute! Just look at him thriving in his loving family and safe environment. It’s wonderful to see his transformation, and thanks to this amazing couple, Hooch got a new lease on life.
