Have you ever heard a story that makes you want to give someone a hug (and maybe the person who neglected them a not-so-friendly hug)? Well, this is one of those.
It’s about 51 chickens who went from a terrible situation to a happy life, all thanks to the incredible efforts of Viva Rescue and Farm Sanctuary.
Recently, these chickens were not having a good time. They were stuck on a backyard farm in California, and their living conditions were far from ideal.
Neglect was a huge problem, and some of the chickens were even suffering from serious health issues.
To make things even worse, the area around the farm was polluted with harmful chemicals known as PCBs.
These chemicals are really dangerous for people and can even lead to cancer, which means these chickens could never be safely consumed. Unfortunately, that usually leads to one sad outcome – ending their life.
But here come the heroes: Viva Rescue! After they heard about these chickens, they jumped into action, determined to give them a new chance at life.
Farm Sanctuary, another fantastic organization that saves farm animals, knew they had to step in also.
So, they provided funding to Viva Rescue to help with the rescue mission. It was a race against time, and sadly, not all the chickens survived.
One chicken had already passed before help arrived, and three others were too weak to recover. It’s really sad, but these brave rescue groups did everything they could.
However, the remaining chickens needed urgent medical care. They were facing a bunch of issues, like fluid buildup and respiratory infections. Some even had problems with their eyes and lungs, likely from all those harmful chemicals.
Fortunately, with time and effort, most of the chickens made it! Viva Rescue took care of them and helped them get healthy again.
While many of the chickens found loving homes, Farm Sanctuary was thrilled to take in 12 of them, giving them a safe and happy place to live.
A few weeks later, these fortunate hens finally made it to their new home at Farm Sanctuary Los Angeles!
So, let’s get to know the cute group: Aurora, Betty, Kauai, Florence, Glenda, Maui, Moana, Smokey, Tango, and Te Fiti.
As of now, they are getting used to their new place really well, and their unique personalities are starting to show.
One of their favorite things to do is something that any chicken owner would understand – making a mess in their straw and wood shavings! It might seem simple, but these little moments bring their rescuers so much joy.
Even though they had a tough start, the chickens are doing great now at the sanctuary. They are chatty and full of energy, and their caregivers are showering them with love and tasty food (including special weight-gaining food and their all-time favorite – salad!).
Now, they have a safe haven where they can strut their stuff, dust bathe in the sunshine, and enjoy the good life. Isn’t it the best ending ever?
