An animal rescue organization recently received an anonymous call about seven dogs desperately needing help.
With nothing but an address, the rescuers instantly rushed to help the seven dogs. However, once they arrived, a soul-crushing sight awaited them…
Instead of seven dogs, they found a momma dog and her puppy. The poor momma dog was chained up in an abandoned shed, while her puppy sat beside her.
The condition of these two poor souls was more than just heartbreaking. Left all alone in the shed, they were so malnourished that their bones were clearly visible.
Despite their miserable state, the two started wagging their tails once they saw the rescue team.
One of the rescuers approached them, and that’s when she broke into tears. As she later mentioned in their video:
“My heart clenched at the sight before me.”
They named the momma dog Arizona and her adorable puppy Texas. It was now crucial to remove the chains and transfer them to their shelter.
For the first time in days, Arizona and Texas had a proper meal. Mama Arizona was so exhausted that she ate her meal while laying down. The shelter staff let them rest for the day since the two were exhausted.
The next day the vet did some tests and once the bloodwork came through, they found out that both mama and her pup were anemic, had a weakened immune system, and the puppy even had signs of pneumonia.
The shelter staff immediately made a special diet plan for the two, but they soon realized that mama Arizona was losing the little strength she had.
In just 48 hours her state went from bad to worse, and the poor soul crossed the rainbow bridge while her puppy was sitting right next to her.
The shelter staff was devastated. They kept asking themselves if she would have survived had they found her sooner.
It seemed like once she saw her puppy finally safe and well taken care of, she knew she could rest peacefully.
Her puppy Texas refused to eat for days after his mom passed away. The tiny soul was heartbroken, and considering the state of his health, the shelter staff worked hard to get food into his system.
Finally, Texas started eating again and his next vet visit ended up with a clean bill of health.
A family was closely observing his journey through the shelter’s social media platforms, and they were willing to adopt Texas.
With a new name, Chico, he was finally on his way to a forever home. It’s truly heartbreaking that his mom Arizona never got to experience a loving and warm home.
Fortunately, Chico recovered thanks to his mom who kept him safe for so long and thanks to the amazing rescuers. Today, he enjoys the life of a happy and healthy dog with a loving family by his side!
