Denver Thrift Store Staff Shocked To Find Someone Hiding In A Donated Recliner

Sharing is caring!

Amidst a turbulent moving, a Colorado family decided to donate their recliner to a thrift store in Denver. However, it wasn’t just the recliner that had gone to the store; someone had made himself a hidden passenger inside it!

Unbeknownst to the family, their ginger cat had found a secret spot inside the recliner, turning it into his little hideaway.

At first, they hadn’t realized Montequlla had vanished, but when they finally noticed his absence, the chaos began.

The family looked high and low, but Montequlla was nowhere in sight. The devastating feeling of losing their beloved cat grew stronger with every minute.

Meanwhile, at the Denver Arc Thrift Store, a staff member heard soft meowing coming from one of the furniture pieces. Upon closer inspection, they found Montequlla trapped inside the recliner!

Confused and concerned, they quickly contacted the Denver Animal Protection Shelter for help, explaining that the cat must have been inside when the chair was dropped off.

Jenna Humphreys, an experienced officer from Denver Animal Protection, shared for local news:

“Sure enough, there’s a recliner out front, and there’s a little orange tabby stuck inside. Very friendly, couldn’t get out. They said that they had noticed the meowing shortly after somebody had dropped it off.”

Jenna and her team gently coaxed Montequlla out of the recliner and freed him from his unexpected trap. They scanned him for a microchip but couldn’t reach his owners because the info wasn’t up-to-date.

Meanwhile, Montequlla’s worried family called the thrift store, hoping someone had seen their missing cat. The staff advised them to contact the shelter, and when they did, Jena confirmed that Montequlla was safe and sound.

Relieved and excited, they rushed over to reunite with their adventurous kitty.

Jenna recounted the joyful reunion, sharing:

“The owners were absolutely thrilled to have their cat back. They were so relieved.”

Jenna pointed out that finding a cat inside a donated recliner was a unique experience for her team, as she explained:

“Oftentimes when we have a stressful event like that, we know that animals can seek hiding spots. So, this one just happened to pick the recliner… It’s not uncommon for us to be called to help remove animals from those situations, but this was a new one.”
