If you have kids who love to explore the outdoors, you have probably faced numerous wild animals your kids brought along.
Whether it’s a bug, a frog, or a snail, children just know how to interact with animals. Such is the story of Otto, an adorable 2-year-old boy who has a unique friendship with a crow!
Yes, you read that right! The crow in question goes by the name Russel, and he is absolutely smitten by his human best friend!
Whenever Otto is playing outside in the backyard, Russel is right by his side. When Otto comes back home from daycare, Russel waits for him on the roof of their house and immediately starts cawing from excitement. As Otto’s mom said in a video:
“Russel is a wild bird. He’s not around all the time. But when Otto is outside, he will never leave Otto’s side. When we go inside, he will sit outside the window, because he wants Otto to go outside with him.”
Although their friendship is adorable, Otto’s mom makes sure never to leave the two unsupervised.
But how did such friendship even come to life? Well, not so long ago while Otto’s dad was at work he heard some unusual noise outside his office.
That’s when he first met Russel. At the time he was just a tiny baby bird, without a mom to take care of him.
Otto’s dad immediately reached out to their local wildlife organization, but sadly they were understaffed with too many animals, and unable to take Russel in.
So he decided to take the baby crow home and nurse him back to life! Once he was ready to fly away into his adventures, Russel decided to stay close to his human family! As Otto’s mom said:
“We’re his flock.”
Otto and Russel truly have such a special and wonderful bond, and Otto will grow up to have an amazing companion by his side! Thanks to this family, Russel was given a second chance at life and he gained a human family that loves him!
