Residents of Capitol Hill, a neighborhood just blocks from downtown Salt Lake City, Utah, were recently taken aback by a startling sight. A bear had climbed up a tall tree, prompting a dramatic rescue effort. Here’s how the unexpected event unfolded.
Early one morning, a young man was alerted by unusual rustling from a tree in his neighborhood. Anticipating a bird or squirrel, he was astounded to instead discover a large black bear awkwardly perched on a branch, looking just as surprised.
The news of the stranded bear spread rapidly, transforming the typically quiet street into a hub of activity. Within minutes, emergency teams arrived on the scene, joined by a growing crowd of onlookers, all eager to catch a glimpse of the unexpected visitor.
A representative from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources shared insights via a Facebook post:
“Our biologists believe [the bear] may have migrated into the lower elevation area looking for food and water. It’s not unusual to see bears migrating around after hibernation, and occasionally they will end up in residential areas.”
