In a heartbreaking scene in Syracuse, New York, a senior dog named Max was found tied to a picnic table, left alone with nothing but a note explaining his ordeal.
“I’m a good boy. I’m about 17 years old. My name is Max. My owners can’t take care of me no more. Please help me!”
Weary and abandoned, Max rested his head on the hard, cold ground as he tried to sleep. Though he couldn’t speak for himself, the note taped nearby told a story of hardship and the difficult decision his previous owners had made.
When local animal rescuers heard about Max’s situation, they rushed to help. Cuse Pit Crew, a pit bull advocacy group, shared the heartbreaking discovery on social media, calling for support for the senior dog.
“We know this is emotionally draining to look at. [S]weet Max was left tied to a picnic bench in Syracuse’s Schiller Park along with this note.”
Soon after, their local Dog Control Division arrived, and Max was taken to a local emergency vet. Following that, Humane CNY took him under their care for a full recovery.
Despite his frail condition, Max quickly showed gratitude, eagerly eating his meals as he began to regain strength.
Over the following days, his emaciated body started to fill out, and the light slowly returned to his eyes. His rescuers and foster parents were thrilled to see his personality shine through, sharing:
“He loves to run around. His vision and hearing aren’t the best, but his nose works 110% … He can smell food or treats a mile away. He loves to go for walks and spend time with people. He isn’t a huge fan of the car but can manage short trips.”
Max is now looking for a new forever home, and HumaneCNY is hopeful someone will open their heart to him. Maureen Davison, their executive director, explained:
“Max will need a home with someone who understands senior dogs with limited vision and hearing. He truly is a goofy boy who has a lot of love to give.”
