A railroad worker became a hero overnight for helping an animal in desperate need of help.
During his shift, he spotted an animal on the railroad tracks. Upon closer inspection, he realized it was a raccoon stuck on the tracks.
While many people turn a blind eye to animals in need, this brave man did exactly the opposite – he immediately embarked on a challenging rescue mission.
The poor raccoon was terrified. His fur somehow got frozen to the tracks, leaving him unable to move or escape from the dangerous spot. To make matters worse, a train could come at any moment.
Realizing the urgency, the heroic railroad worker, Neil Mullis, quickly grabbed warm water and a shovel and sprang into action. He explained in an interview:
“I had a bottle of water on the floor of the truck, and it was room temperature. I poked a hole in it with my wife so it would spray.”
Neil carefully approached the scared raccoon and started setting him free. He added:
“I started spraying it up under his butt, and my coworker grabbed a shovel to pry him off.”
While Neil was carefully rescuing the raccoon, he hoped for one thing only – not to be bitten by the frightened raccoon. However, it seemed they eventually made an agreement. Neil shared:
“The raccoon didn’t want to get hit by a train as much as I didn’t want to get bit by the raccoon, so we had an unspoken agreement to cooperate with each other.”
After a lot of effort, Neil managed to set the raccoon free. He captured some parts of the rescue mission on the video, and shared it with the rest of the world.
The rescue video instantly went viral, amassing over 4M views. And it’s no surprise – it’s not every day you see a raccoon stuck in the middle of the railroad with his fur frozen to the track.
Fortunately, he was found by a compassionate human and rescued just in time.
