A couple of years ago, Joe Boo was roaming the streets of Los Angeles, feeling helpless and looking like a mess.
Lethargic, starving, and dehydrated, he aimlessly trotted around the block, waiting for either his end or for someone to rescue him.
Fortunately, a kind-hearted woman named Stephanie Rose noticed him and immediately took him to the nearest vet clinic.
The vet diagnosed the neglected rooster with severe fowl pox, noting his body was covered in lesions.
After administering antibiotics and topical treatments, he sent Joe Boo home with Stephanie to begin his recovery.
At home, Stephanie made a distressing discovery: Several maggots were crawling around Joe as he lay on the floor.
Upon further inspection, she noticed a large wound under Joe’s wing that required more extensive care.
She reached out to Farm Sanctuary in Los Angeles, who gladly took him in.
After just one week under their expert care, Joe’s condition had significantly improved. He underwent successful wing surgery, his lesions nearly healed, and his overall health was markedly better.
Farm Sanctuary became his forever home, where he quickly adjusted.
Thanks to the skilled professionals and a nurturing environment, this rooster has completely transformed and is now virtually unrecognizable.

Brooke Marshall, senior manager of wellness at Farm Sanctuary, shared his impression of Joe Boo, stating:
“When I first heard of Joe Boo’s plight, he pulled hard on my heartstrings. He definitely had the odds stacked against him. He was not only a rooster in a world where they are often unwanted but in such a horrible condition that we weren’t sure he’d make it. Joe Boo took his odds and tossed them to the side.”
He also added:
“I think of him as a miracle rooster, and despite his questionable past, he’s such a nice guy!”
