Emily was told to be prepared when she arrived to see the “puppy”, as she was in pretty rough shape. As Emily recalls:
“I was given the impression that this was a 9- to 10-week-old puppy.”
Despite her condition, the puppy was so sweet, but Emily could tell she was in a lot of pain. She promised to do everything in her power to help!
“She just had the sweetest eyes…”
Emily decided to co-foster Glo, as she named her, with her good friend Roni. One of their main goals was to help Glo’s skin heal.
When she arrived, she was crusty and hairless, and Roni and Emily were determined to give her the most amazing “GLOw-up” ever.
This journey involved baths multiple times a week, along with lots and lots of love, which Glo accepted graciously. It seemed she realized they were there to help her. Occasionally, she would look up at them, as if saying, “Thank you.”
After a few days, Emily took Glo to the vet for her first wellness exam, and that’s when the real shock came…
“This is an adult dog. She’s got all her adult teeth.”
Both Emily and Roni were surprised to learn that their baby Glo was actually an adult dog. As Emily confessed in the video:
“It was really surprising to hear that she wasn’t a puppy because she looked just like one.”
In a light-hearted moment, Emily jokingly asked Glo, “When were you gonna tell me that you weren’t a puppy?” Glo responded with the most hilarious side-eye.
This revelation didn’t change Emily and Roni’s goals or feelings toward Glo, but it was a bit sad to realize that she had probably been feeling sick for much longer than they had thought.
Soon enough, Glo began to regain her fur, and with it, her spirit came back as well! She became happy and playful, and Emily believes that having two homes has helped her greatly. Glo can now adapt to any environment more easily.
Emily and Roni couldn’t be prouder of Glo’s glow-up!
“She’s beautiful as it is, but to see her be healthy and happy and no longer itchy was really amazing.”
After about six weeks, Emily and Roni knew it was time to start thinking about a future family for Glo.
They chose a couple who loves Glo immensely, and there’s no doubt she’s going to have the best life with them!
“One of the most rewarding things about fostering a dog with a skin condition is that their transformation is so physical. I think Glo was special because despite what was going on with her she was still happy and fun from the get-go.”
Glo continued to be a playful, joyful dog, and nothing can stop her from enjoying her life.
Her new forever parents renamed her Minnie, and you don’t want to miss their daily updates on this sweet little dog! Check out their Instagram to follow along with her journey!
