Chloe Enright was driving down a road with her two kids, Lily and Sam, giggling and chatting in the backseat. Suddenly, she spotted something strange ahead.
As she pulled over, her heart sank – a lifeless kangaroo was lying by the roadside. She stepped out of the car and slowly walked over, dreading what she might find.
But as she bent down, something caught her eye, a tiny movement in the mother’s pouch. Chloe leaned in and saw the tiniest joey peeking out, still alive.
Chloe’s heart skipped a beat. She knew this little one didn’t have much time without its mother, sharing in an interview:
“Her mum was still warm, but she was gone.”
She carefully pulled the tiny joey from its pouch. It was so small, barely bigger than her hand, and shaking with fear. Lily and Sam, who had been quiet until now, were suddenly mesmerized by the little creature.
They rushed to the nearest vet, and the little joey was given a warm bottle of milk. Chloe watched as it drank, weak but determined.
She knew this was just the start of a long journey.
The family then took the joey to a wildlife rescue organization where they were given everything they needed to care for this baby, from special milk to a heated bag to keep it warm. There they learned that their little friend was a girl.
They welcomed the joey into their home with open arms and it didn’t take long before the kids were completely attached. Lily even gave her a name: Angel, as her mom shared:
“Because the angels brought her to us.”
Angel quickly became a beloved part of their lives, turning bottle feedings, snuggles, and tender care into their cherished daily routine. The kids took turns helping out, making sure Angel felt safe and loved.
However, as much as they adore her, Chloe knows that Angel isn’t meant to stay with them forever. The plan was clear from the start – they are just a temporary stop on her journey back to the wild.
With the help of a wildlife rescue organization, the family will release Angel once she is ready to survive on her own.
For now, they cherish every moment with her, knowing that soon enough, Angel will live the life she was always meant to – free and wild, where she truly belongs.
It was Chloe’s natural motherly instincts that saved the life of this helpless little joey, and she has an important message for all of us:
“Please always stop and check if you ever hit a kangaroo as there could be a precious baby joey that won’t survive without care.”
Remember, a quick stop and a little compassion can make all the difference in saving a life.
