Man Stumbles Upon A Wire Crate With A Note That Says ‘Please, Take Me’

Sharing is caring!

For one New Bern resident in North Carolina, a typical morning turned into one full of unexpected surprises.

As he was driving along one of the city’s busiest streets, he noticed a black wired crate on the side of the road. Curious, he stopped to investigate, but what he discovered left him in shock.

When the man approached the crate, he saw a white-and-tan puppy with nothing but an empty bag of food and a note.

The poor creature had likely been abandoned by his previous family, who left the note, hoping someone would take him in. The note read:

“Please take me… I’m a 12-week-old hound. I don’t bite. Take great care of him. He has food with him.”

The abandoned puppy began bouncing around in his crate with excitement, happy to see a human friend. He was starving after spending at least one night alone in the crate.

Luckily, the hero of our story happened to be in the right place at the right time. The man moved the dog out of the direct sun and contacted New Bern Animal Control for help.

Officer Kevin Bahr quickly arrived at the location to pick the dog up. He named him Caerus and took him to Craven-Pamlico Animal Services Center, where he was welcomed with open arms.

After a thorough examination, it was confirmed that Caerus was in perfect health. Surrounded by love, care, and kind-hearted staff, Caerus instantly blossomed. Dr. Osler from CPASC shared in an interview:

“He is an absolute sweetheart of a puppy. He loves to play and cuddle.”

This sweet pup quickly captured everyone’s hearts with his endearing personality. Most importantly, he instantly found his forever home, where he will go right after the neuter procedure.

CPASC shared Caerus’s story to raise awareness about pet abandonment, encouraging people to bring their pets directly to the shelter instead of abandoning them in cruel and heartless ways. Dr. Osler said:

“We have had a recent increase in abandonment at our shelter, both onsite and offsite. We ask that people bring animals in for surrender during our opening hour: Tuesday to Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. If it is out of hours, Animal Control is always available and on call for emergency pick-up.”

Additionally, CPASC points out that abandoning animals is a true crime that carries a penalty of up to $1000, encouraging people to respect the law and ensure their pets’ safety.

Even though Caerus had a rough start in life, he’s now living happily with humans who truly love him. Hopefully, his story will inspire others to always make the right choice when it comes to their pets.
