Such was the fate of poor little B.B., a toy puddle whose sole purpose was to bring as many puppies into this world as possible.

B.B. was born and raised in a puppy mill in North Carolina, where the owner turned his basement into a nightmare for dogs.

Once the Humane Society raided this man’s property, they were left speechless. In the tiny, filthy, and dark basement, 130 dogs were cramped inside small metal cages. As one of the Humane Society officers said in a video:

“Most of these dogs seem like they have not left the basement or their enclosure for their entire life.”

The officers rescued all 130 dogs, but one dog seemed to be in the worst shape. Our poor girl B.B. was completely toothless, malnourished, and scared.

While one of the rescuers held B.B. in her arms, the poor dog couldn’t even open her eyes. As the rescuer shared:

“She’s squinting, trying to adjust to the light.”

This amazing rescue mission received a huge spotlight all over social media. Many dog lovers came forward, willing to adopt these dogs and give them a better life.

Brenda Tortoreo was one of these amazing people. Once she heard about B.B., she was determined to help this sweet girl and welcome her into her home. As Brenda said:

“When I brought her home she slept for a week and a half. She was exhausted. She was nothing but skin and bones when she got here.”

Brenda, already a loving dog mom, made sure that B.B. recovers in no time. She introduced her to a whole new life, where the dog went outside for walks and had a bunch of toys to play with.

Although B.B. went through a lot, she trusted Brenda from the first day. It was almost like she knew this woman was about to change her life for the better.

Her new mom brought her a little over 50 toys! I can understand that, as I would probably do the same. Just the thought alone that B.B. never played with a toy is heartbreaking.

B.B.’s favorite place to be is the backyard. She discovered the joys of running around in the grass and she enjoys it to the fullest.

However, one thing that stands out for B.B. is cuddling. She would spend hours in Brenda’s arms or just napping in her lap. As Brenda mentioned:

“The thing is, she didn’t know what love was, she didn’t know what touch was. I’m sure she was in that cage her whole life. That’s just heartbreaking.”

Thanks to the Humane Society and Brenda, this sweet dog is now living the life she was supposed to.

With her loving forever mom, B.B. will be able to overcome any obstacle in the future. I’m more than grateful for these amazing people who helped B.B.!
