The rescuers from the Boonie Flight Project recently encountered a sight that left them completely heartbroken.
A severely malnourished stray dog was walking around the neighborhood with a jar stuck on her head.
How and for how long was this jar on her head was uncertain, but Stephanie and her volunteer team knew they had to act fast. As Stephanie said in a video:
“Luckily, one of our volunteers was right there with the net, and they got her.”
Once they brought the dog to their facilities, they immediately proceeded to remove the jar. Fortunately, it glided off from her head pretty quickly.
However, the poor dog was so scared that she walked off to a corner of the room and refused to interact with her rescuers. This led the rescuers to believe that the poor soul was mistreated while living on the streets. As Stephanie said:
“It took her time to learn that people are OK. She clearly wants to interact with people, but she’s still so unsure.”
It was crucial to nurse this scared sweetheart back to health and help her gain trust. Naming her Winnie, they quickly found her a proper foster home where she could thrive. As mentioned:
“Being in a foster home with other animals, she was able to witness animals receiving love and attention from people.”
This helped Winnie understand that not all humans were cruel, and she was finally in a safe environment.
Soon after, an adoption application came through. A woman named Mary was willing to adopt Winnie and provide her with the life she deserved. But even after a loving foster home, Winnie was still a scared little pup. As Mary said:
“When we picked up Winnie, she didn’t even know how to play with dogs.”
Luckily, Mary’s other dog Maple was there to teach Winnie the proper ways of a dog. She learned how to run carefree, how to ask for treats, and how to be a playful pup. As their mom also shared:
“She and Maple really started warming up to each other. She watched Maple to see how Maple behaved with everybody. And slowly, she’s building that trust. She is definitely part of a pack now.”
From living a sad and lonely life on the streets to being a loved dog with a warm and cozy bed! Thanks to amazing rescuers, Winnie won the lottery!
