Wildlife Rescuer Sees Something Stirring At The Bottom Of A Meter Well Then Takes A Closer Look

Sharing is caring!

A couple of days ago, a group of workers from Levittown, New York, were changing a water meter in a nearby well when they noticed something moving deep down.

Both intrigued and concerned, they immediately contacted Karenlynn Stracher, a renowned Long Island wildlife rescuer.

Upon her arrival, Karenlynn approached the well, recording a video on her phone for her social media as she often does.

Initially, all she could see was a deep, dark hole. However, once she zoomed in, she observed something moving at the bottom of the well.

Believe it or not, it was an adorable cottontail rabbit, alone, without any other rabbits in sight.

Karenlynn recounted her experience in an interview, saying:

“When I first saw the rabbit, I felt awful. Cottontail rabbits are extremely fragile creatures who can literally [pass away] from fear. I knew he was probably terrified, and time was of the essence.”

Eager to help the distressed animal, Karenlynn immediately began her rescue mission. She carefully lowered a net and a catch pole into the well, starting the delicate process of rescuing the frightened rabbit.

It took some time, but eventually, Karenlynn successfully brought the cottontail rabbit up from the well – and he was finally safe!

Here’s the entire rescue mission Karenlynn posted on her TikTok profile

For Karenlynn, this was an unusual rescue mission – something she had never had the opportunity to experience before. As she pointed out:

“In all the years I have been doing wildlife rescue, this is the first time I have had a situation like this. It is very uncommon for meter wells to be left uncovered and unattended.”

People commenting on her TikTok video echoed concerns about the uncovered meter well. One person wrote:

“They should cover that well. Otherwise, another animal would fall in that well again.”

While another pointed out:

“A human could fall in too. Cover that!”

I’m glad Karenlynn rescued the sweet cottontail rabbit, and I hope the contractors cover that well as soon as possible.
