Sharing snacks with your best friend is a therapeutic experience. You sit down, chit-chat about your day, eat the same old snacks you’ve always loved since college – that kind of thing!
But dogs can’t always participate! They may be (wo)man’s best friend, but when it comes to sharing snacks? We have to know that not everything is safe for them to eat! Some human food can pose serious health risks to your doggo!
Before you feed that cookie to your furry friend, take a look if it’s safe to do so first. Learn more about common human foods that could be dangerous for your four-legged amigo!
1. Chocolate
Chocolate is the joy and happiness of many. But for our dogs? It is a big no-no! Choco treats contain theobromine and caffeine because of the cocoa in them, both of which are toxic to dogs.
The symptoms can be pretty concerning: anything ranging from vomiting to seizures. So make sure to keep that chocolate securely hidden away!
2. Grapes And Raisins
When you think of grapes and raisins, you might be thinking “Ohh! Sounds like a healthy snack!” For doggos, you’d be oh-so-wrong! They’d be a dangerous trap!
Even a few grapes or raisins can cause sudden kidney failure. The reason why is still a mystery to science, though! The main takeaway is this: better be safe than sorry. Keep those yummy snacks far away from their curious noses!
3. Onions and Garlic
These deliciously necessary aromatic staples in human food are dangerous toxins for dogs! Onions and garlic contain compounds that can mess with your dog’s red blood cells.
And trust me, the last thing you want is your dog getting anemia! Been there, done that!
Make sure to keep those savory aromatics out of your pup’s reach! They might get tempted to share that onion-packed lasagna with you. Honestly, who wouldn’t? But stay firm – don’t let them!
4. Avocado
A trendy health food for us – an unsafe nutty trap for our dogs! The tasty green fruit contains persin, which causes digestive problems in doggos – like vomiting and diarrhea!
And the pit? Looks like a fun ball, so it’s technically a choking hazard for playful pups! It’s better to be safe and keep the guacamole to yourself, to be honest. Don’t fall into temptation! I know their begging eyes make it hard, but you can do this!
5. Macadamia Nuts
For some reason, these nuts cause terrible tremors and weakness in dogs. Even temporary paralysis is possible! It’s best to avoid sharing snacks that contain them. Eating only a few nuts is enough to trigger these scary symptoms!
Imagine seeing your dog in this state! I’d be so devastated!
6. Alcohol
Let’s leave the drinking to humans and keep our puppies hydrated with some good ol’ H2O instead, shall we? Just like with us, alcohol can wreak havoc on a dog’s liver and brain. With puppers especially, even the worst-case scenario can happen!
No matter how cute they are, and no matter how harmless it may seem – please don’t let them lick your spilled wine off the floor!
