Despite everything that’s happening in the world, people continue to heartlessly abandon their pets.
What’s even worse is that they don’t leave them at shelters where they could receive help; instead, they dump them wherever they can.
Such was the fate of a tabby male cat who was heartlessly abandoned at a New York subway station.
No one knew how long he had been there, but what matters most is that he crossed paths with a kind-hearted woman. Thanks to her, he received an incredible ride to his new life in just a purse.
Meagan, a compassionate animal lover, came across the tabby feline in the middle of the subway. Seeing him in such a desperate condition broke her heart into pieces.
She quickly learned that the cat had been dumped there and left to fend for himself. Meagan just couldn’t turn a blind eye to him, so she reached out to her friend who runs a rescue called Puppy Kitty NYCity in New York.
The rescue’s main focus is on TNR (trap, neuter, release program) and rehabilitating street cats. Besides that, its main goal is to never say no to an animal in need.
True to the mission, the rescue just couldn’t ignore Meagan’s plea, so they agreed to welcome the cat into their center.
The cat was named Subway, after the very place where he had been found. Though a bit scared, he was a lovely feline who instantly enjoyed the scratches and attention.
Meagan, fearing he would run away, held him on her lap until her friend finally arrived. However, she wasn’t prepared at all, meaning she didn’t bring a proper transporter to take Subway to a safer place.
Determined not to let that stop them from bringing him to safety, they quickly came up with a brilliant plan. They gently placed Subway in a purse and carefully carried him to the car.
Poor Subway had no idea what was going on, or that all of that fuss was for his better future. Once in the car, he hid under the front seat, scared and confused.
Still, Meagan and her friend comforted him with sweet words and gentle scratches as they drove him to the rescue center.
As soon as the women arrived at the shelter, they provided Subway with a lot of delicious and nutritious food, as well as a warm and cozy bed to make up for all the rest he missed during the days he spent at risk.
Thanks to the professional help he received, along with all the love and comfort, Subway slowly began to open up and reveal his true personality.
From a scared, abandoned feline, he quickly transformed into a friendly cat who just couldn’t get enough cuddles and attention.
Seeing his sweet personality, his rescuers couldn’t understand how anyone could abandon such an adorable cat.
Subway also underwent a thorough examination, and to everyone’s surprise, he was in very good health, meaning they probably rescued him in the nick of time. Meagan shared in a video:
“He’s doing really well, appears pretty healthy, and is super sweet obviously.”
Once Subway was safe and healthy, Meagan could finally continue planning his future. The first step on the list was a neutering procedure, after which he would be completely ready for the most important step in his life – finding his forever home.
Subway handled it all like a champ and even captured the heart of a loving family in the blink of an eye.
