One evening, a small white hedgehog found itself in a dangerous situation. It was struggling in the middle of a busy street, thirsty, hungry, and full of bugs.
The little animal didn’t seem like it would make it. But then, fate stepped in in the form of a six-year-old boy named Ruben Wiggins.
With sharp eyes and a caring heart, Ruben saw the hedgehog’s trouble and knew he had to do something.
He called out to his mom to come quickly, because he understood that the hedgehog shouldn’t be out in the daytime and needed help.
Ruben and his mother worked together to coax the hedgehog, who they later named Jack Frost, out from under a parked car.
They showed kindness by giving the little creature some food and water, a small but important gesture that helped ease Jack Frost’s immediate pain.
Once they brought Jack Frost to the rescue center, they realized just how much he had been through.
The infestation of ticks, fleas, and fly eggs showed the difficult battle he had faced. Dehydration and lack of food had left Jack Frost frail and on the brink of passing.
Thankfully, that’s not where the story ends. Ruben’s fast decision-making and the loving care from Prickly Pigs Hedgehog Rescue completely turned things around for Jack Frost.
The organization carefully got rid of the parasites and made sure to hand-feed the tiny hedgehog, which helped him get strong again.
Before long, he was set free in the wilderness, all set to discover his usual surroundings. Maybe, someday, Ruben will have an opportunity to see his spiky buddy darting around in the bushes. I would love that!
