Meet Sophia, a Pekin duck, who had a difficult past that could have ended tragically. Luckily, a caring guardian stepped in and arranged for the surgery needed to remove part of Sophia’s infected toe.
Now known as “Guy Sofia” at Farm Sanctuary, he needed a place to recover – but little did anyone realize, what he really needed was a friend.
Along came Lemongrass, another rescued duck with a story of his own. Fate brought them together when a neighbor of a Farm Sanctuary staffer found four abandoned ducklings, including Lemongrass, who had a broken leg.
After they recovered, Sophia and Lemongrass ended up in the same place at the sanctuary.
It was like magic when they instantly connected, even though they came from different backgrounds. They were always together.
Now, I’m not an expert with birds, but it looks like Sophia found the perfect emotional support in Lemongrass. Recovering from surgery can be tough, but having Lemongrass around makes everything a little better.
And it gets even more adorable. The people who take care of them say these birds really love music!
They especially like classical guitar and the iconic tunes of Simon & Garfunkel. Who would’ve thought that ducks could have such fancy taste?
But still, the best part is how they help each other. Sophia has found a friend who gets him and a buddy who’s always up for chilling.
Meanwhile, Lemongrass has become a more confident duck, feeling happy to help another animal.
However, that’s not the end of the story. Despite everything appearing to be going well, something really sad happened. Unfortunately, Sophia passed away recently.
Though his time at the sanctuary was short, he got the comfort and friendship he needed. It’s nice to know that Lemongrass was there for him in his last moments.
I feel really bad for Lemongrass – I can’t even imagine how sad he must be without his best friend. But I hope that the good times they had together and the love they had for each other will help him feel better as he gets over this sad time.
